Finding ways to sustain resources: Silver Creek Institute

The sign at the end of the lane is small, its promise large: Silver Creek Institute. A turn into the winding, narrow earthen track leads to a simple wooded setting with a home and a greenhouse. It looks like someone's residence. In fact, it once was.

Mothers—more likely grandmothers and great-grandmothers—were honored in a special way at Emmanuel Lutheran Church last Sunday when some of the quilts they’ve made recently were displayed in the sanctuary.

County growth patterns appear stable

Lake County growth seems to be holding steady, for now. The 2007 annual report for Lake County Planning and Zoning (P&Z) activities is in, and P&Z administrator Matt Huddleston said that 289 land use permits were issued last year.

Agates record improves to 6-3 with wins

Two Harbors improved its baseball record to 6-3 with wins over Duluth Marshall and Floodwood this past week. Two Harbors coach Rick Coughlin said the final two weeks of the regular season will be busy as the Agates try to fit in at least eight games over that span.

Mariners pick up first two wins of season

The young Mariner baseball team scored once in the second, twice in the third and three times in the fourth inning to defeat the Cromwell Cardinals 6-1 for their first victory this season last Thursday in Silver Bay.
